Help wanted

I need to find a most suitable word meaning the following:
you're lost in a city, you don't see anything familiar, and there's not a single person in the street besides you. A little later you notice somebody going away and you decide to follow the person, as he obviously is going somewhere. So you keep following the person along the street and in a little while more people appear around, so you start thinking "The street is getting more ....". So my questing is what word would an English or American person (native speaker) use in this sentence in such circumstances? Meaning that there's more people and street look more 'alive'. I will update what word I was thinking of as a non native speaker.

Thanks in advance! (:
